How to convert AVIF to JPG

  1. Choose or drop your AVIF images.
  2. Set the quality and select Convert to JPG.
  3. Download each JPG or the whole batch as a ZIP.

What is AVIF?

AVIF is based on the AV1 video codec. It makes images even smaller than WebP, so more websites and phones now use it. Support outside the browser is still patchy: many photo viewers, office suites and online forms do not accept AVIF yet.

Browser support

This converter uses your browser's own image decoder. Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (version 16 and later) can all read AVIF. If a file will not open, update your browser and try again.

Where AVIF files come from

AVIF is based on the AV1 video codec and often makes images 30 to 50% smaller than JPG at similar quality. Many websites now serve AVIF to browsers that support it, so saving an image can give you an .avif file. Some recent phones and cameras can also save photos as AVIF.

Why convert to JPG

Quality tips

AVIF images from websites are already compressed, so 85 to 90% quality is enough; converting at 100% only makes the file bigger. If you need the transparent background of a logo or product image, use AVIF to PNG instead, because JPG fills transparent areas with white.

Troubleshooting

Questions

Is it private?

Your files never leave your device. The conversion runs inside your browser, so nothing is uploaded to a server and there are no daily limits.

Can I convert AVIF to PNG?

Yes. Use AVIF to PNG, which also keeps transparent backgrounds.

Why did my AVIF fail to convert?

Your browser may be too old to read AVIF. Update to the latest Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
