How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Choose your HEIC photos, or drag them onto the box above. You can add many at once.
- Set the quality. 90% keeps photos looking the same as the originals at a smaller size.
- Select Convert to JPG, then download each photo or all of them as one ZIP file.
Why your photos are HEIC
iPhones save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) by default since iOS 11. HEIC files are about half the size of JPGs at similar quality, which saves space on the phone. The trouble starts when the photo leaves the phone: older versions of Windows, many government and job portals, online print shops and some email clients cannot open HEIC at all.
JPG is the safe choice when you need a photo to just work. Every device, browser and upload form accepts it.
Converting on Windows without installing anything
Windows can show HEIC only after you install an extension from the Microsoft Store, and some versions charge for it. This page needs nothing installed: open it in Edge, Chrome or Firefox, add your photos and download JPGs.
Stop your iPhone saving HEIC
If you always need JPG, open Settings → Camera → Formats on the iPhone and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG. Photos you have already taken stay HEIC, which is what this converter is for.
Open HEIC files on Windows, Mac and Android
Whether you need to convert depends on where the photo is going.
- Windows 10 and 11 show HEIC only after you install the HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store, and some photos also need the HEVC Video Extensions, which cost a small fee. Even then, many websites and older programs still reject the files.
- Mac opens HEIC in Preview and Photos without any extra software. Converting is still useful when you send photos to someone on Windows or upload them to a form.
- Android phones can usually display HEIC in recent versions, but apps and websites you upload to may not accept it.
Copy iPhone photos as JPG automatically
If you move photos to a computer with a cable, open Settings → Photos on the iPhone and, under Transfer to Mac or PC, choose Automatic. The iPhone then converts photos to JPG as they copy. This does not help with photos you have already copied, emailed or downloaded from iCloud, which is where this converter comes in.
Choosing the right quality
| Use | Suggested quality | Typical size for a 12 MP photo |
|---|---|---|
| Printing or editing | 95 to 100% | 4 to 7 MB |
| Sharing and email | 85 to 90% | 2 to 4 MB |
| Websites and chat apps | 70 to 80% | 1 to 2 MB |
If a form needs a specific size such as 100 KB, convert at 90% first, then use the image compressor to reach the exact limit.
Troubleshooting
- A photo will not open: some HEIC files are actually Live Photo videos or bursts. Export the still photo from the Photos app and try again.
- The converted photo looks rotated: the converter applies the orientation your camera saved. If a photo still looks wrong, it was probably rotated in an editing app that did not save the change.
- Conversion is slow: HEIC decoding is heavy work done on your own device. Large batches convert faster on a laptop than on an older phone.
Questions
Is it safe to convert private photos here?
Your files never leave your device. The conversion runs inside your browser, so nothing is uploaded to a server and there are no daily limits.
Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?
JPG is slightly less efficient than HEIC, so the file can be larger, but at 90% quality the difference is not visible. Choose 100% if you plan to edit or print the photo.
Are location and camera details kept?
No. The converted JPG does not include the original EXIF data, such as GPS location. That makes it safer to share publicly.
Can I convert Live Photos?
Yes. You get the still image from the Live Photo. The short video part is not included.
How many photos can I convert at once?
There is no fixed limit. Very large batches depend on your device's memory, so convert a few hundred at a time on phones.
