How to convert JXL to PNG

When PNG is the right choice
JPEG XL can store lossless images and transparency. PNG keeps both, so it is the right target for logos, graphics, screenshots and any image you will edit further. For photos you only want to share or upload, JXL to JPG gives a much smaller file.

Troubleshooting
- The PNG is very large: this is expected. For websites, PNG to WebP makes it small again while keeping transparency.
- Colours look slightly different: some JPEG XL images use wide-gamut or HDR colour. PNG saved by a browser uses standard colour, so very bright highlights may look calmer.
- The first file is slow in Edge: the page loads a decoder once for browsers without built-in JPEG XL support.

Is anything uploaded?

Is transparency kept?
Yes. Transparent areas in the JPEG XL image stay transparent in the PNG.
Why is the PNG so much bigger?
JPEG XL compresses far better than PNG. The PNG holds the same pixels without that compression.
